Dr. Sebastian L.v. Gorka is an expert on counterinsurgency and counterterrorism and teaches irregular warfare in the War and Conflict Studies Department at the College of International Security Affairs at the National Defense University. He is a military affairs fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, founding member of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs and member of the Strategic Advisers Group of the Atlantic Council of the United States. Previously, he was a policy expert of the Hungarian Ministry of Defense, founding director of the Institute for Transitional Democracy and International Security and adjunct professor at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Gorka was born in the UK after his parents fled Hungary after the Hungarian Revolution.
Gorka is graduate of the University of London and the Corvinus University of Budapest, where he received a PhD in Political Science. He was a Kokkalis Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Besides teaching courses at the College of International Security Affairs, Gorka frequently lectures at West Point, the National Counterterrorism Center and the School of Advanced Military Studies. Previously, he taught for four years at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.
